There was something in one of those-- picture letters that was concerning, that I don't know if anyone mentioned.

One of the lines had-- the house picture, and then what looked like a dinner plate. [a slight frown, there.] We had a... particular structure back home, that was said to 'eat' people. It had trapped them to sustain itself. I'm hoping that's not the right reading at all, but considering how strange the place is...

Hm... I was wondering if maybe that was just a reference to Peach, but I guess if it was, they'd have included her animal as well.

It would make some sense, given that everyone before has died and the seeming importance of this location in particular.

I do hope that I'm wrong, but the fact that others have said those dead are still here is worrying, even if it's unlikely to work in the same way.

Yeah... I tried to get details on that—where exactly the dead are—but Jade couldn't answer clearly.

We only know that they can see us and we can reach them, so... they must still be tied here in some way.

I haven't tried speaking with any of them yet, but I'll have to fix that.

I asked if they were in a parallel dimension, but she struggled to give a straight answer. So it does seem like it's complicated.

Good idea. It'd be nice if we could learn what the rules of contacting them are—looks like "never during trials" is one of them.

Oh, I did that with young master Ayabe, during our task this week... there was a man in the house we couldn't speak with. It wasn't as hard as I expected.

Not to discount his efforts, but-- I do at least know I'm better at it than he was.

Well, he was trying to ask if the man broke in, and did this to make his point-

[pounding a closed fist into his open palm, there. ayabe was... so much.]

He was terrified, thought he was being threatened.

... Ah. Yeah, that would do it. How'd you defuse the situation?

Just indicated not to listen to him, and tried a different way to ask the same question.

...he thought I was asking him to break the door, but we were locked in, so I had him do it. He knew how to disable the ward, as well.
